Germany, Dec 06 (ANI): At least 50 people have been injured after a passenger train ploughed into a freight train in Germany's Meerbusch town, local media reports said. The accident happened near the railway station in the town, when the passenger train carrying 150 passengers drove into the freight train. After the news reached local authorities, emergency services reached the spot and helped in extracting the stranded passengers in the train and tended the injured.

Ventura (U.S.), Dec 06 (ANI): Thousands of Californians residing in north and west of Los Angeles fled their homes as two out-of-control wildfires spread rapidly overnight, fuelled by strong desert winds that hampered firefighters on Tuesday. The fire in Ventura County to the west, known as the Thomas Fire, prompted California Governor Jerry Brown to declare a state of emergency after officials said around 27,000 people were forced to evacuate and 45,500 acres and 150 buildings were destroyed. In the San Fernando Valley to the north, the fire destroyed more than 4,000 acres and forced the evacuation of 2,500 homes and a convalescent centre north of Interstate 210. The highway remained open even as other roads were closed.
Meerbusch (Germany), Dec 06 (ANI): Several passengers sustained injuries after two trains collided with each other in Germany's Meerbusch on Tuesday. Rail operator Deutsche Bahn said a passenger train of the regional provider National Express drove into a freight train from DB Cargo. Chancellor Angela Merkel was briefed on the situation. The Meerbusch fire department said up to 150 passengers were on the train.
London, Dec 05 (ANI): Liquor baron Vijay Mallya arrived in Westminster Magistrates' Court for hearing in the extradition case on Tuesday in London. Mallya, who shifted to the UK, is wanted in India for financial irregularities involving a total amount of Rs 9,000 crore as well as money laundering. The trial will continue on December 6th, 7th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th. Chief Magistrate at Westminster Magistrates' Court Emma Arbuthnot is hearing the case presented by Britain's Crown Prosecution Service on behalf of the Indian government, and the defense on which Mallya will hope to thwart efforts to return him to India to face prosecution.
Mumbai, Dec 05 (ANI): The Maharashtra Government declared holiday in schools and colleges in Mumbai and adjoining areas as a precautionary measure against fast-approaching Cylcone Ockhi on Tuesday Maharashtra Education Minister Vinod Tawde took to Twitter to make the announcement. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai will witness light to moderate rainfall in the coming days. A recent video showed a close encounter with two whales enjoying the Californian waters. London (England), Dec 04 (ANI): Liquor baron Vijay Mallya arrived in Westminster Magistrates' Court for his extradition hearing on Monday. While the hearing was still about to begin, a fire alarm went off and the court had to be evacuated. While Mallya evaded media questions, he just said, "I have nothing to say;the submissions in court will be self evident. I am not a decision maker. I follow the proceedings. They are all public proceedings." Over the next ten days, the chief magistrate at Westminster Magistrate's Court, Emma Arbuthnot, will hear the case. Mallya is wanted in India for financial irregularities involving a sum of Rs 9,000 crore and money laundering cases. One of the main arguments of the defense is that he fears for his life in India. Mallya is out on a 650,000-pound bail bond following his arrest by Scotland Yard over fraud and money laundering charges.
Kathmandu (Nepal), Dec 4 (ANI): As many as 11 people, including Nepali Congress youth leader Gagan Thapa were injured in an explosion targeting his election rally at Chapali area of capital Kathmandu. All the injured have been receiving treatment at the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuwan University Teaching Hospital. Thapa who has sustained injuries in his shoulder is said to be in normal condition now, after receiving treatment. Two persons were critically injured in the blast. They have been identified as Shyam Krishna Shrestha and Ram Kaji Shrestha. Security remains tight across Nepal as the country gears up to vote on December 7 for the second and last phase of its historic parliamentary and provincial election.
Canada, Dec 4 (ANI): Balochistan activist Naela Quadri Baloch on Monday wrote to US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, demanding declaration of former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf as a global terrorist. Naela Baloch accused Pervez Musharraf of butchering people of Balochistan using arms bought by the United States of America. Mount Agung has been spewing plumes of smoke from its crater since last week and although it seems to have calmed in the last few days, officials warn there's still a chance of an imminent eruption. Supermoons occur when the moon reaches its closest point to Earth and it just so happens that this was also the last full moon of the year.

South Korea, Dec 04 (ANI): A South Korean fishing boat capsized off the country's western coast on Sunday after it collided with a refueling vessel, killing eight people. The boat was carrying two sailors and 20 passengers when the collision occurred in waters near Incheon west of Seoul, according to the Coast Guard. Two people remain missing and a search and rescue operation involving five helicopters and 19 vessels is underway. The reason for the collision is yet to be confirmed.
Tel Aviv (Israel), Dec 04 (ANI): Around 20,000 Israelis demonstrated in Tel Aviv against government corruption and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who is under criminal investigation over allegations of abuse of office. The demonstration was by far the largest of weekly anti-corruption protests sparked by corruption allegations against Netanyahu, who denies any wrongdoing. The four-term leader is suspected of involvement in two cases. The first involves receiving gifts from wealthy businessmen and the second involves negotiating a deal with a newspaper owner for better coverage in return for curbs on a rival daily. The protest was prompted by a draft law expected to be ratified by parliament next week, which would bar police from publishing its findings in two investigations of Netanyahu.

The objective of the demonstration was to protest the absurd decision of the Switzerland authorities of turning down the political asylum application of Top Baloch leader and chief of BRP, Nawab Brahumdagh Bugti. Mansoor Baloch, the President of the party's UK Chapter, has said that Switzerland should review its decision, and it should not overlook its code of neutrality, human rights laws and the western traditions. Antarctica, Dec 03 (ANI): Ireland's Paul Robinson made a quick visit to Antarctica recently, at the request of the organisers of the Antarctic ice marathon race, to attempt a very different record. The elite athlete is no stranger to the mile distance (1.609km) having previously run a 3:51.1 in the 2014 Fifth Avenue Mile race in New York City, and now with his sights set on qualifying for the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020. On November 25 Robinson lined up for a straight one mile run, with the course distance checked repeatedly by organisers with global positioning instruments. A camera drone tracked him throughout his run with the organisers using an electronic timing system. Luckily the conditions were perfect for visibility with sun, blue skies and little wind. Braving temperatures of minus 20 degrees Celsius with slippery snow underfoot, Robinson ran the distance in a time of four minutes 17.9 seconds which organisers say must be the fastest mile ever run in Antarctica.
