Kathmandu (Nepal), Dec 7(ANI): The second phase of parliamentary and provincial elections in Nepal concluded with high expectations from the voters. A total of 4, 482 candidates are vying for the seats in 45 districts on the basis of First Past the Post (FPTP) electoral system with only Four Hundred women candidates in the fray. People are expecting political stability in the country after holding successful polls. It is the first time that Nepal is voting to choose a provincial council which only got enlisted in the constitution promulgated late in 2015. The same constitution had the deadline of January 2018 till when the Nepal should hold the three-tier elections.

Florida (U.S.), Dec 07 (ANI): In a wake to save a turtle, a man jumped off a fishing pier into the Atlantic Ocean off Venice, Florida to rescue a turtle that got entangled with a fishing hook. Don Zinn, a regular fisher at the Venice Pier, filmed the moment the man, identified by local media as Austin Selby, was swimming towards the loggerhead sea turtle and tried to free it.
Kathmandu (Nepal), Dec 07 (ANI): Polling began in Nepal on Thursday to elect a new parliament and also the provincial councils for the first time after the promulgation of the constitution in 2015. A total of 45 districts will see polling in the final round of polls, and voters, numbering 12, 235,993 in these districts, will elect 128 representatives for the federal parliament and 256 for the provincial councils. A total of 4,482 candidates are vying for the seats on the basis of First Past the Post (FPTP) electoral system with only 400 women candidates in the fray. The Election Commission, Nepal, has allocated 7,752 polling centres with 15,344 polling booths for the voters to exercise their franchise across the areas where the election is commencing. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, on Wednesday, called on Nepali citizens to exercise their right to vote in the biggest festival of the democracy.
Gilgit Baltistan, Dec 07: - The people of Gilgit Baltistan have strengthened their voice against imposition of illegal taxation on them by Islamabad. Shutter down strikes and massive protests by traders and local residents are continuing in Gilgit as they accuse Pakistan for misusing powers against them. Thousands of Californians residing in north and west of Los Angeles fled their homes as two out-of-control wildfires spread rapidly overnight, fuelled by strong desert winds that hampered firefighters. Seoul (South Korea), Dec 06 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's South Korean tour entered its 3rd and last day on Wednesday. Germany, Dec 06 (ANI): At least 50 people have been injured after a passenger train ploughed into a freight train in Germany's Meerbusch town, local media reports said. The accident happened near the railway station in the town, when the passenger train carrying 150 passengers drove into the freight train. After the news reached local authorities, emergency services reached the spot and helped in extracting the stranded passengers in the train and tended the injured.

Ventura (U.S.), Dec 06 (ANI): Thousands of Californians residing in north and west of Los Angeles fled their homes as two out-of-control wildfires spread rapidly overnight, fuelled by strong desert winds that hampered firefighters on Tuesday. The fire in Ventura County to the west, known as the Thomas Fire, prompted California Governor Jerry Brown to declare a state of emergency after officials said around 27,000 people were forced to evacuate and 45,500 acres and 150 buildings were destroyed. In the San Fernando Valley to the north, the fire destroyed more than 4,000 acres and forced the evacuation of 2,500 homes and a convalescent centre north of Interstate 210. The highway remained open even as other roads were closed.
Meerbusch (Germany), Dec 06 (ANI): Several passengers sustained injuries after two trains collided with each other in Germany's Meerbusch on Tuesday. Rail operator Deutsche Bahn said a passenger train of the regional provider National Express drove into a freight train from DB Cargo. Chancellor Angela Merkel was briefed on the situation. The Meerbusch fire department said up to 150 passengers were on the train.

London (England), Dec 04 (ANI): Liquor baron Vijay Mallya arrived in Westminster Magistrates' Court for his extradition hearing on Monday. While the hearing was still about to begin, a fire alarm went off and the court had to be evacuated. While Mallya evaded media questions, he just said, "I have nothing to say;the submissions in court will be self evident. I am not a decision maker. I follow the proceedings. They are all public proceedings." Over the next ten days, the chief magistrate at Westminster Magistrate's Court, Emma Arbuthnot, will hear the case. Mallya is wanted in India for financial irregularities involving a sum of Rs 9,000 crore and money laundering cases. One of the main arguments of the defense is that he fears for his life in India. Mallya is out on a 650,000-pound bail bond following his arrest by Scotland Yard over fraud and money laundering charges.
