Florida (U.S.A), Sep 10 (ANI): Hurricane Irma's powerful winds lashed the Florida Keys as the massive storm slowly began turning from Cuba's northern coast up into the Florida Strait. Hurricane Irma gained strength with a double barrel threat of destructive winds and life-threatening storm surges. Irma was forecast to dump up to 25 inches of rain over parts of the state, which the National Hurricane Center says could cause flash floods and mudslides.

Kim Jong Un hosts celebration for his nuclear scientists

Pyongyang (North Korea), Sep 10 (ANI): North Korea's state-run television on Sunday aired a video of its leader Kim Jong Un hosting massive celebration to congratulate his nuclear scientists and technicians who steered the country's sixth and largest nuclear test a week ago. The footage showed Kim breaking into a broad smile at the People's Theatre with two prominent scientists, head of North Korea's Nuclear Weapons Institute, Ri Hong Sop, and deputy director of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea's munitions industry department, Hong Sung Mu. Kim's wife Ri Sol Ju also attended the event.

Hurricane Irma pounds Cuba

Cuba, Sep 10 (ANI): Hurricane Irma uprooted trees and tore off roofs in Cuba on Saturday. With 200-km per hour winds, the hurricane damaged hotels in the island's best-known beach resorts and forced evacuations along the coast in the capital Havana. Power was out and cellphone service was disrupted in many regions. According to reports, Irma is heading to north towards Florida. In Havana, residents watched as seawater breached the famed Malecon and flooded parts of the main avenue and streets.

He asked people to stay out of the way of the storm and said he was "monitoring the situation around the clock." "We're as prepared as you can be for such an event," he added. One of the most powerful storms Hurricane Irma is expected to brutalize Florida's southern archipelago. The storm has been ranked as a Category 4 storm, the second-highest designation on the Saffir-Simpson scale. The National Hurricane Center reported that hurricane force is beginning to speed up as wind gusts in the area.

Sindhi, Baloch activists protest against Pakistan outside 10 Downing Street

London, Sep 10 (ANI): Activists of UK-based Baloch and Sindhi groups staged a demonstration over extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances being carried out in Pakistan. The demonstration was staged on Sunday morning in front of 10 Downing Street, official residence of British Prime Minister Theresa May. Members of the World Sindhi Congress and other concerned residents of U.K. submitted a petition to the office of the British Prime Minister, stating British aid to Pakistan should come with strings attached to persuade Pakistan to stay committed to human rights and observation of international law as per the UN charter. World Sindhi Congress leader Hidayat Bhutto said the protests were held against the kidnapping and enforced disappearances of Sindhi political and human rights activists in Sindh. London (England), Sep 09 (ANI): England's James Anderson became the sixth bowler and first Englishman to take 500 Test wickets. James Anderson clean bowled West Indies' Kraigg Brathwaite for four on day two of the third Test at Lord's on Friday. Anderson began the match on 497 and took the wickets of Brathwaite and Kyle Hope before Ben Stokes ran through the visitors in the first innings with a six-wicket spell. FBI investigates Uber for spying on its competitor Lyft

New Delhi, Sep 09 (ANI): The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been investigating Uber to see if it has accessed its competitor Lyft's data without authorization. The investigation is focusing on the now defunct Uber programme, internally known as 'Hell'. The company allegedly used it to create fake Lyft customer accounts to seek rides and track nearby Lyft drivers and their prices. Uber pulled a heavily criticized feature from its app that allowed it to track riders for up to five minutes after a trip. The report of the FBI investigation comes days after Uber named Expedia's Dara Khosrowshahi as its new chief executive, who is expected to help Uber deal with a range of other legal problems.

Dutch military provides aid after Hurricane Irma

Sint Maarten (Netherlands), Sep 09 (ANI): The Dutch military provided aid after Hurricane Irma killed five and left a trail of destruction behind. The storm lashed several small islands in the northeast Caribbean, including St. Martin and St. Barthelemy, tearing down trees, flattening homes and causing widespread damage. Government officials in the Netherlands said the hurricane had caused enormous devastation on the Dutch side of the island, killing one person and injuring several others.

EC registers 87 parties, allocates election symbols

Kathmandu (Nepal), Sep 08 (ANI): The Election Commission has registered and allocated election symbols to 87 different political parties for the purpose of the election to the members of the House of Representatives and the State Assemblies. The applications registered at the Election Commission by 95 political parties seeking to be registered for the election purposes as per the Article 271 of the Constitution. Mexico earthquake: Death toll rises to 58

Mexico, Sep 09 (ANI): The death toll in Mexico earthquake has reached 58. Hundreds of buildings collapsed and were damaged, power was cut to more than 1.8 million people and authorities closed schools in at least 11 states for safety checks. The powerful earthquake of 8.1 magnitude also gave rise to a possibility of hazardous tsunami. Mexico's civil protection agency said that the earthquake was stronger than a 1985 tremor that flattened large parts of Mexico City and killed thousands.

Bangladesh hospital overflows with wounded Rohingya refugees

Chittagong (Bangladesh), Sep 09 (ANI): A hospital in Bangladesh was flooded with wounded Rohingya refugees from Myanmar. The wards of the hospital were crowded at the best of times. Doctors were struggling to treat around sixty of the Muslim refugees who fled a deadly crackdown in Myanmar. All the refugees were injured with gunshot or blast wounds and some of them are fighting for their lives. The military claims that it's only targeting insurgents but the wounds of Rohingya refugees tell a different story.

Man loses control over car, rams into petrol station

Thousands of couples exchange wedding vows in mass ceremony

Gapyeong (South Korea), Sep 07 (ANI): Nearly 4,000 couples from 64 countries exchanged wedding vows in South Korea in a mass wedding ceremony conducted by the Unification Church. A further 20,000 couples worldwide participated in the ceremony via Internet, according to the Unification Church. Moon's widow, Hak Ja Han Moon, officiated the ceremony, which was witnessed by about 30,000 church followers and guests gathered at the church's Cheong Shim Peace World Center in Gapyeong.
