9th BRICS Summit: Plenary session begins

Xiamen (China), Sep 04 (ANI): The Plenary session of the 9th BRICS summit in China's Xiamen has been started and world leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa will focus on economic, security and other multilateral issues to build a stronger diplomatic relation among the member countries. Reportedly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet BRICS Business Council and attend a Signing Ceremony soon after the plenary session.

Xiamen (China), Sep 04 (ANI): World leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa arrived in Xiamen for 9th BRICS Summit. Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed BRICS leaders at the International Conference Center in Xiamen. PM Modi will also attend BRICS plenary session, opening ceremony of BRICS Cultural Festival in the city. He will also meet BRICS Business Council and attend a Signing Ceremony. He is also expected to hold bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Brazilian President Michel Temer in Xiamen. PM Modi is on a three-day-visit to China hoping that the summit would support a stronger partnership among the member countries.

Xiamen (China), Sep 04 (ANI): While addressing the world leaders during the 9th BRICS Summit on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized on the transition India has been going through and stated that the nation is on a mission-mode to eradicate poverty; to ensure good health, sanitation, skills, food security, gender equality, energy and education. Further speaking, he mentioned about the various campaigns introduced for the development of the country, such as Clean Ganga, Digital India and the introduction of smart cities.

North Korea confirms sixth nuclear test

North Korea, Sep 03 (ANI): North Korea claimed that it carried out its sixth nuclear test and this time, it conducted the test by using a newly built hydrogen bomb. This is the sixth-ever test of a nuclear weapon and first since U.S. President Donald Trump took office. Reportedly, the blast was the most powerful till date and caused a significant earthquake. According to reports, leader Kim Jong-Un ordered the test, one that can be mounted on an intercontinental ballistic missile. It is claimed by North Korean government that the hydrogen bomb test has "great destructive power" and can be detonated at high altitudes. The massive test caused significant earthquakes and sent shockwaves through South Korea and Japan.

Bee farm worker wears 'Beard of Live Bees' for 61 Minutes, sets new Guinness Record

Canada, Sep 02 (ANI): Toronto witnessed a new "bee beard" record on Thursday set by Juan Carlos Noguez Ortiz. Ortiz claimed the Guinness World record by sitting 61 minutes with his face blanketed by bees. Ortiz beat the previous record by almost eight minutes. According to a bee honey farm worker, he's a novice at this sort of stunt and he has tried it only twice before setting the record. Ortiz, who is a bee farm worker, sat calmly and still during the record, even getting stung twice.

Massive fire breaks out in Los Angeles, 450 firefighters battle flames

California (United States), Aug 02 (ANI): A massive fire broke out in Los Angeles, forcing shutdown of a 13 mile stretch of the roadway and threatening nearby homes. Hours after its start, firefighters were battling flames on both sides of the 210 Freeway as the fire continued up a hillside of the Verdugo Mountains. About 450 firefighters were battling the blaze that has burned hundreds of acres with the potential to burn up to 2,000 acres. No reports of injuries or building damage have been reported.

Watch: Man plays piano in flooded Texas home

Texas (United States), Sep 02 (ANI): A local musician and pastor, Aric Harding, found his home in Friendswood, Texas, flooded after returning to fetch some of his children's belongings. To show his son that the family's piano still worked, Harding sat down in the knee-deep water to play a few chords as a friend of the family. The video of the musician went viral on social media. The footage was later shared by Harding on his Instagram account along with a note saying, "what we used to have going as a city is gone."

Sacrifice of cow, ox, buffalo, camel on Bakr-Eid will invite Gangster Act in U.P.

Sambhal (Uttar Pradesh), Sep 02 (ANI): The Gangsters Act would be invoked against those who sacrifice cow, ox, buffalo and camel as ' Qurbani' on Bakr-Eid, strictly ordered the local authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sambhal Rashid Khan said that he has passed the order that in the time of Bakr-Id, from Septemeber 2 to 4, no cow, buffalo, ox and camel will be sacrificed. If it is done, then under Gangster Act, that particular person will be convicted, with immediate effect.

Watch: World's tallest sandcastle built in Germany

Germany, Sep 02 (ANI): An international team of sand artists has built the world's tallest sandcastle in Germany after the city's attempt failed last year. After almost a month of construction, the finished sandcastle stood at 16.68 meters and was officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the tallest sandcastle in the world. Sand carver Lucas Brueggemann explained that a thousand more tonnes of sand were used this year, allowing for a broader base and better compressed sand. The previous record was held by the Sudarsan Sand Institute for a sandcastle built in February 2017 on the beach at Odisha's Puri. It stood at 14.84 metres and was built in nine days.

Trump declares Sept 3 as 'National Day of Prayer' for Hurricane Harvey victims

Washington D.C. (USA), Sep 02 (ANI): The United States President Donald Trump has declared September 3 to be the 'National Day of Prayer' for the victims of Hurricane Harvey and for the country's response and recovery efforts. He also urged the Americans of "all faiths and religious traditions and backgrounds to offer prayers today for all those harmed by Hurricane Harvey, including people who have lost family members or been injured, those who have lost homes or other property, and our first responders, law enforcement officers, military personnel, and medical professionals leading the response and recovery efforts." The storm has displaced more than 1 million people, with 44 feared dead from flooding that paralyzed Houston, swelled river levels to record highs and knocked out the drinking water supply in Beaumont, Texas, a city of about 120,000 people.

Watch: Serbian barbecue fair grills 65kg burger patty

Leskovac (Serbia), Sep 02 (ANI): Thousands of people flooded Leskovac in Serbia over the past week for the town's annual grill festival. The central event of the five-day fair was an attempt of making the largest burger in the festival's history. The giant meat patty weighed 65 kilograms before barbecuing, two more than the one made in 2016. With a diameter of 1.91 metres and a thickness of up to 5 centimetres, it took three men to flip the slab of beef. After the record was declared, the massive burger was cut into pieces and sampled by the crowd of spectators.

Teachers clash with police in Peru

Lima (Peru), Sep 01 (ANI): Police in Peru faced off with protesting teachers, demanding a pay rise, in a worsening crisis that has seen many classrooms close in Peru's Lima. According to local media, the police tried to stop protesters marching on downtown Lima by using tear gas. A number of arrests were made. The teachers in the march accused authorities of using heavy-handed tactics to quell opposition. The teachers from some parts of the country have been on strike for more than 70 days as they demand higher wages. According to local media reports, some 70 percent of teachers in nine regions of the country have skipped classes to press their demands.

32 districts to go for polls in first phase of election
