Port Moresby, Apr 29 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee laid floral wreath at a memorial in Port Moresby (Bomana) War Cemetery in tribute to the Indian soldiers killed during World War II in Papua New Guinea. The Indian president is on a two-day bilateral visit to Papua New Guinea. Mukherjee was accorded a ceremonial welcome earlier in the day. This is the first ever visit of an Indian head to the country.
Papua New Guinea, Apr 28 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee arrived in Papua New Guinea on Thursday. This is Mukherjee's first visit to Papua New Guinea. He was accorded ceremonial guard of honour at the airport. The President is accompanied by Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Sanjeev Balyan among other dignitaries. In the first leg of his visit, several agreements are expected to be signed with Papua New Guinea in the fields of health, economic cooperation and information technology. Mukherjee will also address Indian students and business community in the country.
Moscow, Apr 28 (ANI): Renowned International Sand Artist from India Sudarsan Pattnaik bagged the gold medal at ninth Moscow Sand Sculpture Championship "The magical world of sand" 2016. Pattnaik won the championship for best composition "Mahatma Gandhi - World Peace". About twenty sand artists from countries around the world participated in the championship. The championship event was held from 21-27 April, 2016 at Moscow. Pattnaik's solo presentation about fifteen feet high sand sculpture "Mahatma Gandhi" depicted the message of non-violence and peace.
Nepal, Apr 27 (ANI): Chairman of Nepal Sadbhavna Party, Anil Jha, stated that the Nepali president is repenting after drafting the wrong constitution. A movement is scheduled to begin from 28th May and on 15th June, the protestors plan to gherao the parliament. Jha blamed Prime Minister K.P Oli and claimed that the government has failed by not doing anything in one year. The coalition of parties will seek an equal chance for everyone to be absorbed across all sectors.

Nepal, Apr 26 (ANI): Industrial activity has picked up in Nepal as situation returns to normal. Several industrial units were forced to close down in the wake of a violent protest by the minority Madhesi community against the new constitution adopted in Nepal last year. Businessmen have heaved a sigh of relief. The agitation led to the loss of 200 billion rupees as production had stalled for several months. More than 50 people also died in the protests. Uncertainty continues to prevail in the Himalayan nation as Madhesis have announced fresh protests beginning April 27.

Chanari (PoK), Apr 26: Anxiety, fear and hopelessness loom large in the air of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir or PoK. The residents of Chanari region have been witness to several deadly accidents in the area due to the poor condition of roads. However, they have received little help from the government. The route from Chanari to Gujar Bandi in PoK passes through many mountain trenches, dangerous curves and with a river flowing just below the road. But, unfortunately, the local administration and the Pakistan government have not constructed parapets throughout the route or signboards depicting dangerous mark, reflectors and other safety measures. The government's ignorance has resulted in several road accidents. So far, around 31 people have lost their lives. With no help from the administration, locals have decided to stop using the route for their own safety. Kathmandu, Apr 25 (ANI): It was on the second day of last year's Nepal International Tattoo Convention when a devastating earthquake rocked the country. Within no time, the tattoo artists came together to provide relief to the survivors by sponsoring water and sanitation projects through an NGO called Raise for Nepal. Raise for Nepal is working with villagers in Salyantar to fix the water supply, which was disrupted in the quakes.
Nepal, Apr 25 (ANI): In a humane gesture, the Nepali Army has sponsored education of a six-month-old baby boy, who was rescued from rubble of his own home 22 hours after it collapsed in the major twin earthquake that hit Nepal last year. The boy and his parents were invited to army headquarters by Chief of Staff of the Nepali Army Rajendra Chhetri. The 7.8-magnitude quake struck high in the Himalayas minutes before noon on April 25 last year, toppling one million houses, upending roads and turning hundreds of villages into ruins that left about 9,000 people dead and 22,000 injured.

Nepal, Apr 24 (ANI): One year after powerful twin earthquakes ravaged his remote village in Nepal, Purba Namjel Tamang is still living in a tent surrounded by the rubble of his former home. For almost a year he had been holding out for long-promised government assistance to rebuild the family home he finished less than a year before the quake struck. Purba Namjel Tamang's fate is reflected across the country. Two separate earthquakes in April and May killed 9,000 people, injured more than 22,000 and damaged or destroyed nearly 900,000 houses, forcing many to live in shelters built with tarpaulins and iron sheets, even in freezing temperatures. The delays were due to the wrangling between political parties, which left many international donors exasperated. Student leader Ajay Jha said that all students should be brought together for the movement because they can provide a vision for the development of Madhes. Tarai-Madhes Loktantrik Party feels that all students of Madhes should be united. Our movement can be boosted by Madhesi youths who will be able to provide a better vision for Madhes. Madhesi people have been protesting since long to get equal rights and remove the existing constitution. Nepal, Apr 23 (ANI): During a Press meet organized in Kathmandu, the Federal Alliance said that the fresh round of protests against new constitution will begin on 27th April and conclude on 14th May. Federal Socialist Forum chairman, Upendra Yadav said it will formulate its strategy for the next round of protest depending on the government's reaction. Federal Alliance is a group of 27 Madhesh-based and pro-Janjati parties. The people in southern Terai region of Nepal protested for five months against Nepal's newly adopted constitution that was promulgated in September last year. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Pakistan): Last rites of Swaran Singh, former president of Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (PSGPC), were held in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday. An umbrella organisation of Sunni Islamist militant groups, Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, which is based in Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) along the Afghan border, has claimed responsibility for Singh's murder. Singh was murdered near Pir Baba in Buner district on Friday while going home after attending a political rally of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). PTI chief Imran Khan has made Swaran Singh a member of the Punjab provincial assembly in Pakistan.
Lalitpur (Nepal), Apr 23 (ANI): The anti-graft commission of Nepal arrested journalist Kanak Mani Dixit on corruption charges on Saturday morning. The editor and publisher of news magazine Himal Southasian was arrested from his residence in Lalitpur by around 20 personnel of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). Dixit, who is also the chairman of Sajha Yatayat a public transportation bus system in Nepal, has been accused of misusing money and his public post.

It took less than 30 seconds for last year's 7.8 magnitude earthquake on on April 25 to reduce it to a pile of rubble. The earthquake killed some 9,000 people and injured more than 22,000 others, according to the United Nations and government figures. It damaged more than 900,000 houses. Ayush and his family lived, though a falling barn crushed several of their goats. Ayush lives with his mother, sister and two elderly grandparents in Mati Village, the family survive by breeding and selling livestock. Nepal is still struggling to recover from last year's twin earthquakes that affected nearly eight million people, killing over 9,000, injuring more than 22,000 and destroying over a million homes in the small Himalayan nation.
New York, Apr 23 (ANI): India will need a huge investment by 2030 in the energy sector to fuel its race to provide power, said Power Minister Piyush Goyal. Goyal made the remarks at an investors meet in New York. Goyal said India would quadruple its energy needs by 2030. He expressed hope that given the prediction of a good monsoon this year, India may see double digit growth by end of 2016-17 financial year.
