Nepal, Dec 30 (ANI): Prayers were performed for Rajendra Mahato, president of the Nepal Sadbhavana Party, who was injured in a clash with Nepali police during a protest near Biratnagar on the India-Nepal border on December 26. The agitation comes after Nepal's political leadership assured Madhesis of accepting their political demands. Factions of Madhesi agitators continue to remain sceptical about the promise and are continuing their agitation demanding immediate changes in the constitution. Madhesis have been protesting against Nepal's new constitution for more than four months, seeking fresh demarcation of federal boundaries and other rights. More than 50 people have died and many more were injured in Terai area after protests against the new constitution began four months ago. There were reports that police have used `excessive force' to quell protests in many parts.

Gilgit Baltistan, Dec 29: Rising unemployment has become a major concern for educated youth in Gilgit Baltistan. The lack of job opportunities and low standards of education have made it difficult for them to secure jobs. Despite being rich in natural resources, Gilgit Baltistan has not done very well in realising its economic potential. In the absence of industries, there are not enough jobs on offer. The people of Gilgit Baltistan blame the administration for failing to come out with effective policies for the welfare of locals. Not much has been done to promote tourism and farming sectors in the region. Pakistan has built many dams in Gilgit Baltistan to exploit abundant water resources and generate electricity for its provinces. However, the people in Gilgit Baltistan are forced to live in darkness. With no government help reaching the public, the people have no option but to accept their fate.

Biratnagar, Dec 27 (ANI): Rajendra Mahato, a senior leader of Nepal, and several others were injured in a clash with police during a protest in Jogbani area near India-Nepal border. Mahato was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital after sustaining injuries to his head and legs. Some Madhesi groups launched a strike in the southern plains, blockading a key traffic across a border with India. Many Madhesis have close linguistic and cultural bonds with Indians across the border.
Dharamsala, Dec 27 (ANI): Tibetan Prime Minister-in-exile, Lobsang Sangay hit out at China after media reported about growing ties between Beijing and a Buddhist religious sect, whose members have organised protests against the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, globally.Sangay said Beijing was using Shugden community to divide the Tibetan society. The protesters are members of a sect that worships Dorje Shugden, a deity its devotees revere as a protector. The Dalai Lama discourages the practice, advising his followers that Dorje Shugden is a malevolent spirit. The Shugden worshippers accuse the Tibetan spiritual leader of persecuting them for their beliefs. The Dalai Lama has set up Tibetan government-in-exile in Dharamsala.
