Islamabad, May 09 (ANI): Pakistan's Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said that the Pakistan army had made strict arrangements for security to protect the helicopter that crashed while carrying diplomats to inspect a tourism project in the mountainous region of Gilgit earlier. England, May 08 (ANI): Prime Minister David Cameron's Conservatives are set to govern Britain for another five years after an unexpectedly strong showing, but may have to grapple with renewed calls for Scottish independence after nationalists surged. Ed Miliband, leader of the main opposition Labour Party, all but conceded defeat on Friday morning, saying he was "deeply sorry" for a "very disappointing and difficult night". Cameron said he hoped to form a government in the coming days after his party enjoyed what he described as a "very strong night". With nearly three quarters of seats counted, the Conservatives had won 203 of 650 seats with an exit poll suggesting they were on track to win 316 seats in the lower house of parliament, just shy of a majority but with ample options to form a government.

Exit poll springs surprise in UK election with conservationists as winners

London, May 08 (ANI): Londoners voiced their surprise at the exit poll released as voting ended on Thursday for a general election that was believed to be the closest race in a generation. The exit poll showed the Conservatives were just short of a majority despite opinion polls repeatedly showing a neck and neck race that was too close to call in the run up to the vote. Alexander Mavroneon, a labour supporter said he is hoping the exit polls emerge as significantly undermining Labour. Another Labour supporter still had hope that Labour could find a way into Downing Street. The poll forecast the Conservatives would win 316 of 650 seats in the lower house of parliament and the main opposition Labor Party 239. If accurate, that would be center-left Labor's worst result in almost three decades and it faced being wiped out in its former Scottish stronghold.

Pak says its stand on Dawood Ibrahim vindicated by Indian govt announcement

Islamabad, May 08 (ANI): Pakistan's Foreign Office said the admission by India's Minister of State for Home Affairs Haribhai Chaudhary that they were not aware of Dawood Ibrahim's whereabouts, confirms Pakistan's stand that the underworld Don was not hiding in its territory. Responding to a question on the underworld don, the Foreign Ministry spokesman Khalilullah Qazi said Pakistan has repeatedly maintained that Dawood Ibrahim is not present in Pakistan. The Indian government told Parliament on Tuesday that Ibrahim, one of India's most-wanted men, for allegedly masterminding the 1993 blasts in Mumbai in which 300 people were killed, has not been located so far. Qazi said Pakistan has provided proof of Indian involvement in Pakistani affairs at many occasions, including the recent secretary level talks.

President Mukherjee arrives in Moscow for WW-II celebrations

Moscow, May 08 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee arrived in Moscow ahead of a major military parade to be held on Red Square on Saturday to celebrate the 70th anniversary of a World War Two victory over Nazi Germany. Mukherjee's name is just one on the shortened list of foreign politicians who came to Russia for the anniversary celebrations. This year's parade is marred with the shadow of worsening relations between Russia and the West, with many Western leaders not attending the celebrations in Moscow. Putin has not only whipped up patriotism as the anniversary approaches, but has used the boycott to fan the anti-Western sentiment that has helped unite people behind him and distract them from their economic problems. He has accused the United States of putting pressure on allies not to attend the parade and accused Russia's "enemies" of rewriting history to play down the significance of Moscow's role in defeating Nazi Germany.

Pakistan army accuses India of backing terrorism in rare rebuke

Rawalpindi, May 07 (ANI): Pakistan's military has accused India's main intelligence agency of whipping up terrorism in Pakistan in rare public criticism that could increase tension between the nuclear-armed rivals. The accusation came after a meeting of the army's top commanders at the military's headquarters in the city of Rawalpindi to review an offensive against militants in the northwest and other security issues. While Pakistani army officers often privately accuse India of meddling, it is rare for the military to accuse India's spy agency in an official statement.
