Kathmandu, April 28 (ANI): NDRF DG OP Singh on Tuesday said that 13 NDRF teams have been working on the ground and the search and rescue operations are underway in the quake-hit Nepal. He added that 11 people have been rescued from the debris and 69 bodies have been recovered so far. Rescue operations by Indian government have been escalated in Nepalese capital of Kathmandu in the wake of a strong earthquake of 7.9 on Ritcher scale.
Kathmandu, April 28 (ANI): Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae on Tuesday said that Nepal earthquake is a big tragedy and that the Indian defence forces are conducting the search and rescue operation in the devastated region. He added that medical teams have reached in Kathmandu and till now 14 Indian have lost their lives in the massive calamity. He further said that he is thankful to the Bihar, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh government for arranging bus facility to evacuate the victims.
Kathmandu, April 28 (ANI): Shock turned to anger in Nepal on Tuesday as some of the tens of thousands stricken by a devastating earthquake, which killed more than 4,000 people, expressed frustration at what they said was their government's slow response to the crisis. Many people across Nepal slept in the open for a third night, their homes either flattened or threatened by tremors that spread more fear among a traumatised population. With aid slow to reach many of the most vulnerable, some Nepalese were critical of the government. Hospitals are full to overflowing, while water, food and power are scarce, raising fears of waterborne diseases. Apart from finding shelter at night, the people in the capital city had to find their own food, water and necessity as limited help is mostly being deployed in more affected areas out of town.
Kathmandu, April 28 (ANI): Authorities in Nepal are continuing mass cremation as bodies are piling up following a powerful earthquake at the weekend that killed more than 4, 000 people. A powerful earthquake struck the Himalayan kingdom with 7.9 magnitude at midday on Saturday (April 25) followed by several aftershocks. The calamity is one of the worst in over 81 years of Nepal's history. Rescuers dug with their bare hands and bodies piled up in Nepal in the heavily crowded Kathmandu Valley. The plight has worsened to such an extent that the government of Nepal has ordered for continuous cremation of the bodies to prevent spread of diseases. Chances of outbreak of epidemic have increased with the downpour, he added.
Kathmandu, April 28 (ANI): Rescue workers of India's National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) pulled out a Nepalese woman alive, 50 hours after the Saturday's powerful earthquake struck Nepal. The quake and aftershocks toppled buildings, opening gaping cracks in the houses and sent people scurrying into the open, leaving many dead and injured in Nepal and its neighbouring Indian states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The lady was rushed to nearby hospital in Kathmandu where her upper body was said to be stable. Many of Kathmandu's one million residents have slept in the open since Saturday's quake, either because their homes were flattened or they were terrified that aftershocks would bring them crashing down.
Kathmandu, April 28 (ANI): With the improvement in weather conditions, Indian Air Force has stepped up rescue operations in the earthquake hit Nepal. Working in coordination with Nepal Army, it rescued several injured people. A powerful earthquake struck the Himalayan kingdom with the 7.9 magnitude at midday on Saturday (April 25) followed by several aftershocks. The earthquake had its epicentre in Pokhra. Task Force Commander of Indian Air Force (IAF), Air commodore Suresh, said that the rescue team was trying to rescue as many people as possible. The rescued people were transported to safe zone by Indian Air Force (IAF). Many mountaineers and foreign nationals were among the ones who were rescued by the Indian team.
Kathmandu, April 28 (ANI): Battered by a powerful earthquake, people in Nepal now stared at fuel crisis as supplies of petrol and diesel have been hit. Thousands of motorists and vehicle owners gathered at an army petrol pump to get fuel as most of the outlets were damaged or shut due to non- availability of staff. Thousands of people began fleeing the capital Kathmandu, terror-stricken by two days of powerful aftershocks and looming shortages of food and water after an earthquake that killed more than 4,000 people. The Nepal government was trying to cope with a shortage of drinking water, food and electricity, as well as the threat of disease, and the government appealed for international help.
New Delhi/ Kathmandu, April 28 (ANI): One of the most sacred Hindu temples of Nepal - Pashupatinath Temple located on both banks of Bagmati River in Kathmandu escaped the fury of the powerful earthquake with minor damages. The famous 5th century Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu survived the massive 7.9 magnitude earthquake that flattened several World Heritages like iconic Dharahara tower and Darbar Square in Nepal. Nepal has incurred heavy loss of lives as well as property in wake of the massive earthquake that hit the valley on Saturday. Meanwhile, a traumatised US couple, who alongwith others were rescued and brought to India from the earthquake-ravaged Nepal, said they felt sorry for the people of Nepal who have lost their homes and families. Brockbens, who miraculously survived massive earthquake in Nepal described it as a "traumatic experience". Emotional Deby and Ken Brockben said they were saved by an Indian national but rued they couldn't help the victims.
Kathmandu, April 28 (ANI): Chinese rescue and medical teams have stepped up rescue operations, following Saturday's 7.9-magnitude earthquake in Nepal. The People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force has sent IL-76 planes to transport army rescuers and aid supplies to Nepal. The first batch of 55 army rescuers, experienced in earthquake rescue missions, with rescue equipment and sniffer dogs arrived in Kathmandu on Monday. Another 45 soldiers are scheduled to leave for Nepal on Tuesday. China's foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei told reporters that the government was also sending 186 tonnes of relief supplies that included tents and blankets.
Kathmandu, April 27 (ANI): Michael Churton, a documentary film maker from New York, considers himself lucky that he managed to survive the massive earthquake and avalanche at Mount Everest base camp where he was filming a documentary on the Everest ascent. Churton, 38, was with four other colleagues at the base camp at 17,500 feet ascent when the earthquake struck, sending tons of ice and snow down the mountain. At least 17 people were killed on Mount Everest in the earthquake-triggered avalanche. More than 60 people were injured. Mountain rescue teams, helped by clear weather, used helicopters on Monday to airlift climbers still stranded. An estimated 100 climbers and guides were safe but trapped at camps 1 and 2 by the earthquake which rendered the treacherous Khumbu icefalls leading up to them from base camp impassable.
Kathmandu, April 27 (ANI): Yoga guru Baba Ramdev announced to adopt all children, who have lost their parents and family members in the massive earthquake in Nepal that has claimed more than 2,500 lives. Ramdev, who himself survived the disaster by a few minutes at a yoga camp, called upon his volunteers to donate blood to save the lives of people injured in the quake. Ramdev decided to stay back in Nepal to serve the people in need. He said he would remain there till the situation is brought under control. Ramdev has also set up a relief camp in Kathmandu to provide food and shelter to the victims. Rescuers have been digging with their bare hands as bodies pile up in Nepal after an earthquake devastated the heavily crowded Kathmandu Valley, killing more than 3,000 people, and triggered a deadly avalanche on Mount Everest.
Kathmandu, April 27 (ANI): International aid teams started arriving into Kathmandu's Tribhupam International Airport in Nepal after an earthquake devastated the heavily crowded Kathmandu Valley, killing more than 2,500 people, and triggered a deadly avalanche on Mount Everest. India flew in medical supplies and relief crews, while China sent in a 60-strong emergency team. Relief agencies said hospitals in the Kathmandu Valley were overflowing and running out of medical supplies. At the airport people stood in lines, many desperate to catch a flight as tremors continued to hit the country. One tourist from the Czech republic said she had been waiting at the airport since Saturday.
Kathmandu, April 26 (ANI): People stranded in Nepal seem panicked as fresh tremors hit the valley today. The 6.7 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal with epicenter at Kodari, around 80 km east of Kathmandu. The Kathmandu airport was shut down as the air traffic controllers evacuated. People were seen lined up outside the Tribhuvam International Airport for their flights back to their nation. The tourists also recounted the experience they went through. Parts of Pashupatinath temple was also affected in the massive quake and nearby small temples were totally devastated. Mass cremation is also underway as death toll due to Saturday's quake crossed over 2,000. Meanwhile, Sherpas from the Mount Everest also returned after they were evacuated during the relief operation. The families and relatives of those who died at the Everest camp were seen crying on the loss of their loved ones.
Kathmandu, April 26 (ANI): Former Nepal Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on Sunday appealed earthquake victims to have patience and extend support to needy people. He added that more loss of lives have taken place in remote and mountainous regions which are still inaccessible. He also added that he is grateful to the government of India for extending support to them at this hour of crisis.
Kathmandu, April 26 (ANI): French tourists stranded in Nepal, which was hit by a massive earthquake on Saturday killing over 1,900, sought assistance to go back to their country. The 7.9 magnitude quake struck at midday on Saturday at a busy time of year for the tourism-reliant country's trekking and climbing season, with an estimated 300,000 foreign tourists in the country. A group of French tourists stranded in Kathmandu said they are without phone and internet connection. Some of them haven't even contacted their families for over 20 hours. Meanwhile, another French tourist Caroline said they didn't get any assistance from the French Embassy also.
Pakistan, April 26 (ANI): Pakistan on Sunday dispatched four C-130 aircraft carrying a 30-bed mobile hospital, specialist search and rescue teams and aid to Nepal after an earthquake devastated the heavily crowded Kathmandu Valley, killing over 2,000. The mobile hospital is accompanied by a team of Pakistan army doctors. An Urban search and rescue team from the Pakistan Army which is highly specialised in rescue work during natural disasters has also been sent to assist in the search for survivors. Two thousand ready-to-eat meal packs, water bottles, medicines, 200 tents, 600 blankets and other necessary items were also sent on the C-130 aircraft. A strong aftershock on Sunday unleashed further avalanches in the Himalayas and shook buildings as far away as the Indian capital New Delhi, halting the city metro for a while. That aftershock, measured at 6.7, was the strongest since Saturday's 7.9 quake, the most powerful Nepal's worst earthquake disaster of 1934 that killed 8,500 people.
Kunming, April 26 (ANI): Chinese tourists evacuated from Nepal after a 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit the country arrived back in China on Sunday morning, state media reported. A total of 230 Chinese tourists arrived in Kunming airport in China's Yunnan province. Another group of 93 Chinese tourists arrived at an airport in China's Guangzhou, among them were survivors of the strong quake. An injured Chinese tourist recalled what happened. Her husband also had minor injuries after a falling rock hit his head. An unidentified witness also recalled his experience. CCTV cited China's Civil Aviation Administration as saying that all flights to Nepal will be operating normally, and extra flights will be dispatched to pick up more trapped Chinese tourists.
Kathmandu, April 26 (ANI): Hundreds of residents, including women and children, in capital Kathmandu spent the Saturday night (April 25) in open as rescue operations intensified to look for survivors in earthquake-hit Nepal. Thousands of people braved freezing temperatures and patchy rain to sleep on pavements, in parks or in fields in the crowded Kathmandu valley, too afraid to return to homes damaged by the 7.9 magnitude quake. Hundreds of rescue workers digged through the rubbles to search for survivors. Thousands people spent the night outside, setting up makeshift tents, sitting around campfires and eating food provided by volunteers. Some of them sang, played guitar and chatted all night to keep their spirits high. Nepal urged countries to send aid to help it cope with the aftermath of the devastating quake that killed more than 1800.

Many have gathered in and around the teaching hospital in Kathmandu. They're afraid to return to their damaged homes after the 7.9 magnitude quake hit on Saturday. Early on Sunday the official number of dead stood at more than 1, 800 and at least 4, 700 people have been injured. India is already sending aircraft and relief supplies in response to the Nepal government's plea for international help. In many areas rescuers have had to use their bare hands to search through rubble for survivors. Help has only just reached the Mount Everest base camp where hundreds of climbers are stranded and at least 17 have been killed by an avalanche caused by the quake.
Kathmandu, April 25 (ANI): A massive earthquake measuring 7.9 magnitude struck 80 km east of Pokhara in Nepal on Saturday, causing some buildings in the capital Kathmandu to collapse, witnesses said. Still photographs showed women and children sitting outside a school after the quake hit. Sources from Kathmandu also said that some buildings collapse and walls of several houses reduced to rubble. According to report, at least one person was killed when an old building collapsed in the premises of the Indian consulate in Kathmandu. The dead person was a Nepalese national, according to a Nepal-based journalist. Dozens of people with injuries are being rushed to the main hospital in central Kathmandu.
