Washington DC, April 12 (ANI): A person shot him or herself dead near the US Capitol sparking a security lockdown at the complex, US Capitol police said. Police were also investigating a suspicious package on the lower west terrace of the Capitol building in Washington, and several nearby streets were closed. Several media reports said it was luggage left by the person. Police said the lockdown was a precautionary measure. The police also confirmed that there was no sign of any terrorism and that the capitol was locked down because of the potential security threat. However, Capitol Police spokeswoman Kimberly Schneide confirmed through a statement later that self-inflicted gunshot was by neutralized subject.
Yemen, April 12 (ANI): Clashes were reported across Aden as the battle for Yemen's strategic port city continues. A Saudi-led air strike campaign has so far failed from stopping the powerful Houthi militia to enter the city but has helped local militias allied to the government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, who is currently based in neighbouring Saudi Arabia, to fight off the Houthis in many areas of the city. There were clashes in the Mualla, Buriqa and Dar Saad districts in Aden. Local militiamen in Aden said they captured two Iranian military officers advising Houthi rebels during fighting on Friday evening. Tehran has denied providing military support for Houthi fighters, whose advances have drawn air strikes by a regional coalition led by Saudi Arabia, the Islamic Republic's main rival for influence in the Gulf. New York, April 11 (ANI): The United Nations is calling for an immediate humanitarian pause to allow more life-saving aid to be brought into Yemen by air and sea. The world deliberative body says millions of people are at risk of physical injury or death because of the fighting and the lack of basic services, including health care, safe water and food. The World Health Organization reports 648 people have been killed and 2,191 wounded. The WHO also warned of measles, meningitis and typhoid outbreaks. The humanitarian situation in Yemen is getting worse by the hour, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric reported during a press conference. Paris, April 11 (ANI): India and France on Friday signed 17 agreements, including on the stalled nuclear project in Jaitapur in Maharashtra, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held wide-ranging talks with French President Francois Hollande. Pre-engineering agreements were inked between NPCIL and Areva which intend to bring clarity on all technical aspects of the plant. MoU was also signed between Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and French National Centre for Space Studies (CNES) on the Indo-French Megha Tropiques satellite which was launched on board the Indian launch vehicle PSLV on October 12, 2011. An MoU on cooperation in the field of renewable energy between the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and France's Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy was also signed. A Railway protocol between Indian Ministry of Railways and French National Railways (SNCF) was also inked.
