Narrow escape for 40 passengers as bus catches fire

Nearly 40 passengers travelling in a low-floor bus had a narrow escape today after the vehicle caught fire apparently due to excessive heat, an officer said.

The rear-engine low-floor bus caught fire near Durgapura area of the city, fire officer Devang Kumar said.

The passengers were safely evacuated just in time after driver reportedly noticed flames in the engine, he said.

Two fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames, he added.
