A 19-year-old pregnant woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Vijay Nagar colony here, following which a case of dowry death has been registered against her in-laws, police said today.
Dhanesh Kumari, who was 8-month pregnant, died mysteriously last night, said police.
On the basis of a complaint filed by Kumari's father Abhey Singh Yadav, a case of dowry death was registered against her husband Sanjay Yadav, father-in-law Suraj Bhan Yadav, mother-in-law Shakuntala Devi and two others at the the Model Town police station today, they said.
In his complaint, Abhey, a resident of the nearby Niganiawas village, has alleged that because of his inability to give Dhanesh's in-laws a car, they tortured and strangulated her to death last night.
Dhanesh was married to Sanjay in February 2012.
Postmortem examination of the body was conducted in the civil hospital here this evening and the report is awaited.
