Suven gets patent for Alzheimer, Parkinson compound

Suven Life Sciences today said it has received patent from the US Patent Office for a compound used in the treatment of neuro diseases like Alzheimer and Parkinson.
The patent is for the compound discovered by Suven and is useful in the treatment associated with neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's disease, attention deficient hyperactivity disorder, Parkinson and Schizophrenia, the company said in a press release.
"The US Patent Office has issued a product patent: $7,649,097 to one of company's new chemical entity (NCE) which is for the treatment of disorders associated with neurodegenerative diseases and this patent is valid until 2025," the company said.
With this new patent, Suven has a total of five granted US product patents for their NCEs in central nervous system therapy.
"We are very pleased by the grant of this patent by the US Patent Office for our pipeline of molecules in CNS arena that are being developed for cognitive disorders, which has an estimated $20 billion market potential globally," Suven CEO Venkat Jasti said.
These granted patents are exclusive intellectual property of the company and are achieved through the internal drug discovery research efforts.
Shares of Suven Lifesciences were trading at Rs 32.85 on BSE, up 8.06 per cent from previous close.
