Born in 1960, George Kurian has been associated with BJP since the latter's early formation days of 1980s. Kurian is a Rajya Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh and serves as MoS Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Minority Affairs in the PM Modi-led Cabinet.

Kurian is a Supreme Court lawyer. A Christian belonging to the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, Kurian hails from Kerala's Kottayam district. He is married to Lt. Col. O. T. Annamma is a retired nursing officer in the Indian Army and they have two children.
Political Career
The Keralite politician has held various organisational posts, including member of the national executive committee of BJP. He has also been an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) for the former Minister of State for Railways, O. Rajagopal, who has been BJP's first and only MLA till now from Kerala. Notably, Kurian has served as a translator to PM Modi during the latter's visits to Kerala.
In 2016, the former vice-chairman of the National Commission for Minorities contested on BJP ticket from Puthuppally Assembly seat in Kerala. However, he lost the polls to Congress heavyweight and ex-Kerala CM Oommen Chandy.
Kurian is one of the few influential Kerala BJP leaders and the party hopes to make inroads in the state's Christian vote bank, which traditionally votes for Congress-led UDF alliance, through him and some other leaders. Therefore, the BJP leadership decided to make him an Union minister in June 2024 and then later was inducted into Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh.
