Rao Inderjit Singh, Union minister of state (independent charge), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (Mospi)

	Born in Haryana&#39;s Rewari district in 1951, Rao Inderjit Singh is a BJP MP from Gurgaon. In 2024, Rao became Union Minister of State (Independent Charges) for the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation as also for the Ministry of Planning. Rao is the son of Maharaja Rao Birendra Singh, who is a former CM of Haryana, and grandson of Rao Tula Ram, a freedom fighter of India&#39;s first war of independence in 1857. He is a prominent Ahir leader of Haryana.</div>

	Apart from that, Rao is a former shooter and has won several accolades for the country in international tournaments. He was a member of the Indian shooting team from 1990 to 2003.</div>

	Rao did his schooling from the Lawrence School, Sanawar and later took a law degree from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. He also attended the Hindu College, DU.</div>

	Rao is a former Congressman and stayed in the party for decades before severing ties in 2013 after having a fallout with the then Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda.</div>

	He became an MLA for the first time in 1977 and an MP in 1998. Rao has been elected as an MP on six occasions, out of which three times on a Congress ticket and thrice on a BJP ticket.</div>

	Interestingly, Rao has been a Minister of State on several occasions and with both, BJP and Congress govt.</div>

	In 2019, Rao defeated Congress&#39; Capt Ajay Yadav by a margin of almost 4 lakh votes and won the Gurgaon LS seat. However, in 2024, Rao faced a very tough competition from Congress candidate and veteran actor Raj Babbar but eventually won by a slender margin of 75,000 votes.</div>

	Notably, some of Rao&#39;s supporters were reportedly unhappy with him not being inducted as a Union Minister even after being elected as an MP for a record sixth time.</div>
