Jai Row Kavi is rehearsing on the drums when he hears the sound of a flute coming from the other side of the room. It’s a challenge and Kavi, who has played with bands across genres like rock, metal, and electro pop, smiles and responds with his drums. The flautist, Ajay Prasanna, keeps pace. What follows is an impromptu, playful jugalbandi between Kavi and Prasanna — the son and disciple of Bholanath Prasanna, who is also flute maestro Hariprasad Chaurasia’s guru. Watching this friendly back and forth is composer Karsh Kale, the man who has brought together these musicians from backgrounds as diverse as can be. Considered one of the pioneers of the Asian underground movement, Kale too joins in with his tabla.
