| The South Asia Human Rights Documentation Centre (SAHRDC) is the Secretariat of the Asia Pacific Human Rights Network, and works for the cause in South Asia. Monitors such as these tend to operate discreetly so that the very presence of their sensors does not distort the field under observation (thus avoiding the inherent bias that "celebrity journalism"""especially the TV variety that charges in, all-lights-glaring, camera-crew-in-tow""is often accused of). But for SAHRDC, generating awareness of human rights is part of the agenda too. Hence this slim volume, with its special emphasis on gender justice, environmental and consumer law. For widespread knowledge dissemination, however, a much friendlier mass campaign would be needed. Not a dull text book.
