IBM India has announced that it is now the leader in the overall server market in India with a 35 per cent market share in revenue terms in Q3 of 2004, according to IDC's Quarterly Enterprise Server Tracker, Q3 2004.

In the x86 server segment, IBM's eServer xSeries (Intel range of servers) clocked an all-time high market share in revenue terms of 41.6 per cent, since Q1 1999, leaving its nearest competitor trailing way behind with 28 per cent market share in Q3 2004.

Says Alok Ohrie, VP -"" systems & technology group, IBM India, "This is clearly indicative from the fact that technology improvements and channel acceptance have enabled us to gain consistent momentum. We will continue to set new standards for technology innovation and pursue open industry standards to give our customers end-to-end integrated and cost-effective solutions that they demand."

While the expenditure in the x86 server market grew 16.2 per cent year-on-year in Q3 2004, IBM's x86 xSeries revenues grew nearly four times. On a quarter-on-quarter basis (Q3 2004 Vs Q2 2004), IBM's x86 server revenues increased 11 per cent.
