Asim Ghosh steps down as Vodafone-Essar MD

BS Reporters Mumbai/New Delhi

Vodafone-Essar Managing Director Asim Ghosh will step down after his term ends on March 31, 2009. He, however, will continue to be director on the company’s board.

Marten Pieters, former CEO of Celtel International (a GSM operator with presence 13 African countries), will succeed Ghosh.

"The company is in good shape. We have a pan-India network and I think it is the right time to move on," Asim Ghosh told Business Standard.

Ghosh is 61 years old.

Ghosh had joined Hutchison Max Telecom in 1998, and has been with the company since then.
