Course in music production

BS Reporter Chennai
SAE India, the Indian brand of SAE International, represented by Access Atlantech Technologies India Ltd (AAT India), has announced the launch of a department for electronic music production at its Chennai centre.

Courses offered at the new department will be made available in Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi by September 2007.

"This course is offered in 17 countries by SAE International. The course introduced here has been structured to suit the Indian music industry. With the advancement in technology, the Indian music industry is becoming more digitalised and there is a huge potential for individuals interested in music production, given the increasing number of albums that are released every year," Rathish Babu, chief executive officer, AAT India Ltd, said.

The duration of the course is three-and-a-half months and the fee is Rs 1.2 lakh. Students will be encouraged to take up projects and depending on their talent and the project's commercial viability, they will be given a chance to release their own albums.

"We have a tie-up with GV Sonic (a brand launched by GV Films to release film songs, cassettes and compact disc) and we are also in talks with Hungama and Soundbuzz for providing industry training to our students," Babu added.

Overall, the Chennai centre has around 300 students and the courses offered are audio engineering, animation and visual effects, games design and development, and digital film-making.

Pravin Mani, a south-based music director, has played an active role in making the course content more relevant to the Indian music industry.

"My role will be that of a supervisor and I will be guiding the students who take up this course. Regular session programmes will be run to help the students understand the various intricacies of electronic music production," Mani said.
