Courses in airport management

Electrotherm Ltd-promoted Indus Institute of Technology and Engineering (IITE), which begins its first academic session this month, has lined up new courses from the next year onwards.
The institute would be launching India's first one-year certificate course in airport management in collaboration with a Canadian university. Similarly, it also plans a course in automobile designing.
For the certificate course in airport management, the institute has tied up with the Canadian Aviation Institute affiliated to Georgian University in Canada. The course is expected to have 60 seats and would charge Rs 2 lakh from each student. Although the course material has not been worked out yet, it would be offered from March 2007.
"The rationale behind launching a course in airport management is to tap abundant employment opportunities arising from the booming aviation sector in the country. The reason for tying up with Georgian University is its reputation for imparting transportation and aviation related courses," Arun Lohiya, executive director, IITE, told Business Standard.
For the course in automobile designing, being planned on the lines of the automobile course at the National Institute of Design (NID), the institute is planning a first-of-its-kind centre on its campus.
"We are in advanced talks with automobile designing companies in China for the course and things should be finalised in a couple of months," said Lohiya who added that Rs 8 crore has been invested in the institute so far.
IITE, recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and affiliated to Gujarat University, will offer a four-year B.E degree in four streams at the graduate level.
The streams include Automobile, Mechanical, Electric and Electronic and Metallurgical engineering. Each branch will have 60 seats. The institute is located at Rancharda, Ahmedabad.
"The courses at each branch consist of live projects, industry interactions, hands-on experience and will enable students to have a direct access to Electrotherm's manufacturing facilities, " said Nagesh Bhandari, secretary, Bhandari Charitable Trust that funds the institute.
