DLF lines up land for new mall in Chennai

BS Reporter Chennai
Leading real estate developer DLF plans to construct a mall comprising a food court, multiplex and several other facilities meant for families, at Guindy in Chennai.

The strategically located land will also complement the company's existing Central Chennai facility at Commander-In-Chief Road, DLF's chief executive (southern region), Dr Ramkumar, said.

The mall will come up on 5.56 acres of land which DLF has leased from the Madras Race Club for an undisclosed period. DLF outbid companies like Unitech, Taj GVK, Oberoi Hotels, Emaar, B. Raheja, Ratthas and Sheth Developers to gain rights to the property.

Saying that the bid for the land was part of DLF's 'investment plan for the state', Rajeev Talwar, DLF Group executive director, said that DLF was in the process of focussing more on building homes, offices, IT parks, malls, hotels, SEZs and infrastructure projects.

Recently, DLF vice-chairman Rajiv Singh had met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and conveyed the company's plans to invest Rs 10,000 crore in the state.

Several projects in Tamil Nadu and other southern states are on the anvil for the Gurgaon-headquartered company.
