Ginger hotel debuts in Thiruvananthapuram

The IT zone in the Kerala capital is spiced up now with the launch of Indian Hotel Company Ltd's (IHCL) Ginger hotel adjacent to the Technopark here.
The 'Smart Basics' concept in hotels, which made its debut today in Thiruvananthapuram, is IHCL's fifth venture in India. The Ginger hotel concept was kickstarted with the opening of the first hotel at Whitefield in Bangalore in June two years ago.
Speaking at the launch of Ginger here, Prabhat Pani, chief executive officer of Roots Corporation Ltd, the 100-per cent subsidiary of IHCL, said starting with the Thiruvananthapuram venture, more locations in the state would be considered for opening such hotels.
"We have invested Rs 10 crore in the Thriuvananthapuram venture, on a Rs 10-lakh per room basis. More such hotels would be opened in various locations in the state, with Kochi being lined up as our next destination in Kerala."
The Ginger hotels are being marketed as simple, unique, reasonable, basic, light-hearted and innovative. Priced at Rs 999 for a single room and Rs 1199 for a double room, Ginger hotels boast of WiFi, gym, onsite ATM, electronic check-in facility and various other unique features.
Ginger targets the business traveller as well as families on pilgrimage.
"We would have more such hotels in most of the Tier-I, II and III cities very soon. While the next Ginger hotel would come up at Pune in October, Durgapur would have its Ginger hotel by December. We also plan to open two such hotels in Nashik and Pondicherry by March next."
Ginger hotels have been indigenously designed and developed by IHCL.
