Godrej comes up with low-priced refrigerator for poor

Godrej Appliances Limited, part of the Godrej Group, is coming out with a low-priced refrigerator for the poorer sections of the society, the Group's top official said.

"We are coming (out) with a small refrigerator priced at Rs 3,000 for the bottom of the pyramid sections," Godrej Group Chairman Adi Godrej told reporters here today.

The refrigerator as small as an ice-box, will be based on "Pelti-effect", that is, it will be able to cool but not make ice as the demand among the poor is "more for cool water and keeping their vegetables fresh", he said.

"We are experimenting with it (fridge) in parts of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh", Adi said.
