Hologram Keen On Picking Up Stake In Holostik India

BUSINESS STANDARD

Hologram Industries of France is keen on picking up stake in Delhi-based Holostik India Ltd, the country's leading producer of security holograms. "A top level team from the French company is going to come to Delhi to discuss the issue," sources said. At the moment, Hologram Industries has a technical collaboration with the Indian company.

The sources disclosed that this is not the first time that the French company has shown an interest in picking up a stake in Holostik India. "Last year too, it had offered to buy a stake in the company but the two could not agree on the price," the sources added. Holostik India is a closely-held company promoted by Delhi-based industrialist U K Gupta.

Holostik India claims to have a 60 per cent share of the Indian holograms market. The company had recorded a turnover of Rs 14 crore for 2000-01. During the current financial year, it hopes to attain a turnover of Rs 40 crore. "During the first six months itself the company has touched a turnover of Rs 20 crore. By the end of the year, sales are expected to be over Rs 40 crore," the sources added.

Recently, Holostik India got the largest ever hologram order in the country -- of Rs 12 crore per annum for the next three years -- from the Uttar Pradesh government. These holograms have been ordered by the state excise department to paste on all liquor bottles and polythene pouches produced in the state in order to curb the sale of spurious liquor. In order to execute the order, Holostik India is investing around Rs 1 crore to set up a facility to produce holograms at Allahabad in the state. In the past, Holostik India has also bagged a similar order worth Rs 6 crore per annum from the Tamil Nadu excise department.

Holostik India's main plant is located at Noida near Delhi. The company plans to raise its share of the holograms market in the country from the current 60 per cent to 70 per cent. Sources said the potential market for holograms in the country was to the tune of Rs 200 crore.
