Our Regional Bureau Chennai
Jet Airways is to operate a daily flight service between Chennai and Singapore beginning December 7, the airline's third international flight service out of Chennai. It currently operates services to Colombo and Kuala Lumpur.

The airline announced an inaugural Economy Class return fare of Rs 12,000 on the Chennai-Singapore route at a press conference here today.

Jet Airways' chief operating officer, Peter Luethi, said that the airline expected a passenger load factor of 75 per cent in the first four months on the Chennai-Singapore leg. He added that the break-even load on the sector would be about 63 per cent.

Luethi pointed out that one of the main selling points of the flight service would be the timing. It is scheduled to leave Chennai in the morning and reach Singapore early evening (local time). The return leg would see the flight touching down in Chennai early in the afternoon.

The flight service would be run with a B737-800 aircraft, with 16 seats in business class and 124 seats in economy class.

Jet Airways currently operates flights to four international destinations. The airline has a fleet of 51 aircraft, of which three are the A340-300 E aircraft.
