Tata Consulatncy Services Ltd (TCS) may go in for a major recruitment drive in Gujarat following its decision to set up a development centre at Infocity in Gandhinagar.

TCS is also planning to expand its operation in Gujarat, which would give employment opportunity to about 2,000 IT professionals and 10,000 other people engaged in related support services over a period of two years.

"Gujarat is an important state for overall development of the country. We felt the need to set up our development centre in Gujarat because of the availability of the talent pool in Gujarat. The quality of human resource in the state is as good as in any other part of the world," S Ramadorai, managing director, TCS told Business Standard on Friday.

He was in Gandhinagar to sign the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government for setting up the development centre.

"I am fully aware that IT industry requires highly talented manpower. Considering this, the state government has taken various steps such as setting up of new higher technical educational institutions, conferring university status to three more institutions of excellence "" Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Nirma University of Science and Technology and Dharamsinh Desai Institute of Information Technology "" which produce quality manpower for IT businesses," said chief minister Narendra Modi.

"Private sector participation is invited in higher technical education," he added.

TCL's full-fledged development centre is expected to be operational by the end of the next financial year.
