Neyveli to add 750 Mw by year-end

Neyveli Lignite Corporation is planning to add 750 Megawatt (Mw) of power into various grids by the end of the year.

NLC director – mines B Surender Mohan said Phase I of 250 Mw TPS – II at Tuticorin would be ready by end of this month, while the second phase (250 Mw) would be ready by May or June. The company currently has a generation capacity of 2,500 Mw.

The 2X125 Mw Barsinagar (Rajasthan) would also be ready before end of this year, and all put together 750 Mw of additional power would be generated by the corporation, he said.

 

It has also decided to dismantle its 45-year-old TSI plant at Tuticorin and is planning to set up a 1,000 Mw power plant in the same location. At present, the plant produces 600 Mw and has a mine in the same location. This project will see an investment of around Rs 5,000 crore. The the old plant will be shut down from 2015, said Mohan.

He said the company had a mining capacity of 30.6 million tonnes and another 5 mt would be added.
