Regal-Beloit Corporation, a US-based international manufacturer of electrical and mechanical motion control products, has set up its technology development centre in Hyderabad.

"It is the first such facility to have been set up outside the US, which holds a strategic importance as far as the global operations of the company are concerned," Mark J Gliebe, president & chief operating officer of Regal-Beloit Corporation, said here today.

Addressing a press conference after inaugurating the facility, Mark said that the company intends to achieve $200 million turnover from Indian operations by the year 2009 from the current $ 74 million.

According to him, the company has invested about $ 4 million in its Hyderabad technology centre which has a team of 50 professionals and aims to double the strength in the next few months.

The centre will support the design requirements of the company's manufacturing operations consisting of a range of products including gears, gear drives, transmissions, valve actuators among others.

According to M K Trishal, president & CEO of GE Industrial Systems which was recently acquired by Regal-Beloit, the company's Hyderabad technology centre would also be equipped to meet its IT & software needs in future.

The acquisition of GE's commercial and HVAC (heating ventilation and aircooling) motors business includes a manufacturing facility in Faridabad which currently supplies motors to several international air-conditioner brands, Trishal said. About 70 per cent of the products manufactured at the Faridabad unit are being exported to the US and Middle East, he added.
