Schaffner to set up mfg unit in India

Schaffner, a Switzerland-based company that manufactures energy-efficient components such as magnetics and harmonic filters, is contemplating setting up a manufacturing facility in India.
"The size and location for the proposed plant have not yet been decided. It may take between 18-24 months from now to establish the facility," said Sunil Kumar, business development manager (India).
Speaking to Business Standard on the sidelines of Rockwell Automation on Move – Connect 11, an event to showcase Rockwell’s network of upstream and downstream partners, in Hyderabad on Tuesday, Kumar said the Indian facility will manufacture the entire range of Schaffner's products and solutions, including passive and active harmonics and special magnetics for traction that ensure efficient and reliable operation of electronic systems.
These components are deployed in energy-efficient drive systems and electronic motor controls, wind power and photovoltaic systems, rail technology, machine tools and telecommunications. Sectors like transportation (locomotives), elevators and cranes, medical (X-ray and laboratory equipment), military (aircraft and ships), telecom and power use these components.
“Schaffner, which has a global turnover of 250 million Swiss franc, derived revenues of about 1.5 million euro since it entered India in 2010. We are aiming at revenues of 10 million euro from the domestic market in the next four years,” he said.
