Sponge Iron Firms Spurn China Order On Input Shortage

A shortage of raw materials has forced local sponge iron firms to decline an estimated half-a-million tonne order from China.

While China is interested only in gas-based sponge iron, producers such as Vikram Ispat and Ispat Industries faced severe shortage of gas in 2002-03.

As per estimates, the industry experienced a shortage of about 57 per cent of the
