People in many parts of India have traditionally relied on dhobis and domestic helps to do their laundry. The onset of washing machines has reduced this dependence a great deal. But that doesn’t mean the entire job is done.
Here are a few startups that promise to take care of every headache there ever was in the laundry scheme of things.
Wassup On Demand
Wassup On Demand operates in Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai, among other cities.
Founded in 2012 by Durga Das and R Balachandar, it allows a user to drop off the laundry at one of their centers, or get it picked up from home.

Its regular turnaround time is two days, but if someone is in a real hurry, they can request for the express service – and get the clothes back in 24 hours.
Dhobiwala
How many laundry startups spare a thought for the environment while consuming water, electricity, or using detergents? Dhobiwala says it does.
Dilip Param, whose startup Ironwala used to provide back-end steam ironing services to laundry startups in Bangalore, stepped in with Dhobiwala this month.
The company lays stress on caring as much for the earth as for your clothes. For instance, it keeps the water soft to ensure it uses less detergent. And it also uses only biodegradable detergents.
This startup will bring your clean clothes back to you in 24 hours, but it also has an express laundry service, which delivers in just four hours.
It was founded last year by Satyam Mishra, Prakhar Pagaria, Saransh Sidhu, and Tushar Thettayil. The startup promises exclusivity in the sense that your clothes are never washed with anybody else’s. So far they claim to have serviced over 2,500 customers.
