State limits sales tax exemption incentive to industrial units

The Orissa cabinet has approved an amendment to the Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR), 1980, 1986, 1989 and IPR-1996 limiting the sales tax exemption enjoyed by the industrial units for a particular period.

The cabinet also endorsed another amendment in provisions of the IPR prescribing that the units which have availed capital investment subsidy (CIS) earlier will not be eligible for such benefit further.

Accordingly, the units which have already availed maximum capital investment subsidy under any of the provisions of IPR for taking up expansion, diversification and modernisation of their units will not be eligible for additional CIS. Similarly, the units getting sales tax exemption cannot claim this facility indefinitely. Though the industry department had earlier clarified the issue, the appropriate provisions were not inserted in the amendments of the Sales Tax act, sources said.

 

The cabinet chaired by the chief minister Naveen Patnaik has put its seal on the proposed special legislation to prevent the violence against the medical services persons and damage to property of medicare institutions like hospitals, dispensaries, primary health centres (PHCs), community health centres (CHCs), ayurvedic and homeopathy hospitals. Any person committing an act of violence against medicare service persons discharging his duty will be punished with imprisonment up to 3 years and a fine up to Rs 50,000.

The cabinet also approved an amendment in the Biju Patnaik University of Technology Act according Deemed University status on the University College of Engineering, Burla. The institute will function out of the control of the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) and will be an autonomous body.

It also approved a proposal to provide 100 acres of land in Arugul mouza in Jatni tehsil free of cost to Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for establishment of an international centre to conduct research on foot and mouth diseases of cattles. Similarly, one acre land was sanctioned to Ramkrushna Vivekananda mission in Salabani mouza under Sadar tehsil in Balasore district.
