Strike hits hot metal production at VS

The one-day strike call given by the worker's union of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Tuesday to protest against disinvestment has hit hot metal production.
The production, which is on normal days 11,000-12,000 tonnes a day, declined to below 1,000 tonne, and it would take three days to restore the original production, D Adinarayana, general secretary, Steel Plant Employees Union, the recognised union of VSP, told Business Standard.
About 15,000 permanent and 20,000 contract workers were on strike to protest against the Centre’s decision. The central government has decided to offload 10 per cent stake in VSP for Rs 2,500-3,000 crore.
