Tata Motors plant under virtual siege

The area surrounding the Tata Motors small car plant here has virtually come under the control of Trinamool Congress as the party's indefinite dharna entered the fifth day today.
The car plant has been barricaded even as police kept a watch on the dharna manch where Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee and leaders of allies are camping.
The plant wore a deserted look as normal work was affected with Trinamool Congress supporters threatening workers who turned up for work.
Workers of an ancillary unit and a van-puller were assaulted by Trinamool workers yesterday.
A Tata Motors spokesman said that attendance of contract workers was less than 15 per cent, which was lower than yesterday.
Thousands of students from neighbouring districts assembled here to observe the foundation day of the Chhatra Parishad, the student wing of Trinamool Congress.
The Durgapur Expressway adjacent to the Tata Motors plant was being blocked with no vehicle being allowed to pass.
Except some media vehicles and those of the Trinamool Congress leaders, no other cars to be seen.
