The Uttar Pradesh Sugar Mills' Association (UPSMA) has filed an application with the Supreme Court seeking an eight-week extension for paying the sugarcane dues to the farmers.

</p><p class='TableClas'>On May 15, the Supreme Court had granted a 4 week period to the state sugar mills for clearing the entire 2007-08 season. </P>
</p><p class='TableClas'>This period expires on June 12. The Association says that sugar prices have come down in last one month and mills continue to face cash crunch. </P></p></table>
