Wipro Infotech has successfully completed a study of the risk assessment and disaster recovery of the information system of Bharat Overseas Bank.

The consulting services division of Wipro Infotech that handled the project analysed the various aspects of security and provided consultancy on the level of information protection required by the bank.

The risk assessment, done over a period of two months, covered technology devices, vulnerability assessment, processes, policies and contingency plans.

"The assessment had covered risk and disaster recovery. It has enabled Wipro Infotech to gauge the bank's level of security. We were able to then give them suggestions on the necessary process changes required to attain the desired levels of security," Dr Anurag Srivastava, chief technology officer and general manager - consulting, Wipro Infotech, said.

The consultancy services offered by Wipro Infotech enabled the Bharat Overseas Bank to understand different levels of security and preparedness required. The assessment acted as a guide to judge the investment requirements, policies and their adequacy.

Wipro Infotech has also drafted a disaster recovery plan for the bank to understand the impact on operations due to the non-availability and options available for recovery.

According to A Vijaykumar, assistant general manager, computer services division of Bharat Overseas Bank, "Wipro Infotech completed the assignment in time without seriously affecting our core banking project activities. The team's varied professional experience and knowledge coupled with their quick grasp of our business practices has helped the bank arriving at an implementable and pragmatic policy."
