Wipro Lighting sees big chance in tier-II, III cities

With the retail sector in the country witnessing a major boom, Wipro Lighting, a part of Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting Group, sees lot of opportunities in the tier-II and tier-III cities in the country.
"So far, we were confined to metros, where largest chunk of our customers are located. In future, we are looking at the tier-II and tier-III cities, which are going to witness the next phase of retail boom in the country," Rajesh Kochhar, chief executive, Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting told media on Tuesday.
Giving a rough estimate of the retail lighting market in the country, Kochhar said this was around Rs 300 crore. He said people in retail business understand the importance of lighting in creating the right kind of ambience and "they are ready to spend on this".
About the lighting requirement in the retail sector, Kochhar said, "Our rough estimate is that there is a requirement of Rs 30-40 worth of lighting equipment per square foot."
With energy saving playing a key role in the future energy requirement, Kochhar said, a good investment on lighting would pay-back the money invested on this within two-three years time. "We have priced our products in such a way that customers will find it convenient to invest on lighting and get the return through energy saving," he added.
Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting also launched its premium range of architectural lighting specifically for the retail sector. This apart, the company which entered into the furniture market in 2004 with the launching of office modular furniture, has also announced entering into the 'seating' range with the launching of 'Yuva' range of chairs suited for the IT & ITES sector.
"With our renewed focus on the furniture segment, companies are looking at us as a large value-added partner as they can meet their lighting as well as the furniture requirement from us," Kochhar pointed out.
