Wipro Technologies, the IT business of Wipro Limited, has joined the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), a global body dedicated to developing standards and solutions for smartphone and in-vehicle connectivity.

The Bangalore-based company said its membership at CCC will help it in developing smartphone-based connected-car solutions.
Members of the CCC include leading players in automobile, mobile communications and consumer electronics sectors.

The consortium has created a technology standard, MirrorLinkÔ which ensures seamless communication between smartphones and in-car systems like steering wheels, dashboard buttons and screens.

“We’ve been working on similar technology for more than two years and have built solutions for interfacing with terminal mode and non-terminal mode mobile devices. Membership in the Car Connectivity Consortium is the logical next step in our endeavor to create the best driving experience for consumers,” said John Slosar, General Manager, Automotive Electronics, Wipro Technologies.

In the automotive space, Wipro provides product development solutions for infotainment & telematics systems, body electronics, instrument clusters, power train and engine management systems. In FY12, R&D services accounted 12.4% of Wipro’s IT services revenues.
