The Railway Minister remained confined to his Ashoka Road residence and did not even attend office

Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, who is under cloud over alleged bribery, skipped the cabinet meeting today, triggering speculation that he may be on his way out.

Bansal remained confined to his Ashoka Road residence and did not even attend office, with sources close to him saying he was not well.

"He is not well and there was no railway agenda in the cabinet meeting," a source close to Bansal said.

The development triggered speculation that he could be on his way out in the wake of bribery allegations in the railways involving his nephew.

CBI is probing allegations that Rs 90 lakh were paid to Bansal's nephew Vijay Singla by Railway Board Member (Staff) Mahesh Kumar for his appointment as Member (Electrical).

Bansal has denied any wrongdoing by him claiming that he has no business links with Singla.
