Succumbing to the pressure building on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Chhattisgarh for allowing chicken processing plant in the state, Chief Minister Raman Singh today vowed that his government would not allow a single slaughter house to come up.
"As long as the BJP government is in power in the state, not a single slaughter house will be allowed in Chhattisgarh," he told reporters. He said the government led by him would never give permission to open slaughter house.
Interestingly, the state government had inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on June 4 to open a chicken processing plant in Rajnandgaon, which also happens to be the home constituency of the chief minister. The plant would have the capacity of processing 90,000 metric tonnes of chicken.
The decision of the state government to drop the project for which it had inked agreement within three months was learned to be taken under pressure. A message had gone viral quoting the letter addressed to the chief minister by the "residents of Rajnandgaon district" referring to the slaughter house or the chicken processing centre in the district. The letter said that the residents of Rajnandgaon were stunned with the decision of the state government to allow slaughter house.
