BS Reporter New Delhi

Team Anna has raised the bogey of corruption in the ongoing defence controversy in the country. Anna Hazare and activists of India Against Corruption have written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday asking questions about the  alleged shortage of arms and weapons in the Army and the theory of an attempted coup. Referring to Army chief General V K Singh’s letter to the prime minister saying that the Army was in a difficult situation with acute shortage of weapons, they said the shortage should not have happened given the huge budget allocations made for defence since 1996-97. While it was Rs 30,000 crore during that period, it has increased to Rs 62,000 crore in 2001-02, and Rs 1.5 lakh crore in 2011-12.
