It seems Sports Minister Vijay Goel has made it a habit of landing in trouble every time he says or does something. This time, with a slip of tongue, Vijay Goel has got himself all the unwanted attention . According to an NDTV report, he briefed the media after PM Narendra Modi met the Rio Olympians.

He said, "PM Modi today met with Khel Ratna, Dhyanchand and Dronacharya awardees. The sportspersons also included our two Rio gold medallists PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik."

The clip was posted on Twitter with him referring to Sindhu annd Malik as 'gold medallists', leading to much mirth and criticism on Twitter. Earlier, he had posted a picture of Dutee Chand while wishing good luck to athlete Srabani Nanda.

He later said, "One should not make an issue of it. It was just a slip of tongue, I wanted to say medallist, but ended up saying gold medallist. It happens at times. Who knows, might be with god's grace, we might a bag gold medal in the coming years."

Goel had earlier met Sindhu and Malik in the national capital and lauded them for bringing honour to the nation at Rio.

ANI quoted him saying "In the 'Mann Ki Baat' address, the Prime Minister has encouraged the players of the Rio Olympics and other players. I think their dedication to their games deserves a national welcome. We will keep taking initiatives that will take sports forward. We will also prepare for the upcoming Olympics for 2020, 26, 28,". Interestingly, the minister again made an error and calculated the years wrong. It should have been 2020, 24 and 28 instead of what Vijay Goel said.
