NEET is not a fair or equitable method of admission, said the Bill passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday

Press Trust of India Chennai
The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday adopted a Bill to dispense with the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) and provide for admission to medical courses based on Class XII marks to ensure social justice.

It is the first state to scrap NEET. The Bills adopted in 2017 for the same purpose during the AIADMK regime did not get the President’s assent. The test is not a fair or equitable method of admission since it favoured the rich and elite sections of society, the preamble of the Bill said.

Admissions to medical courses are traceable to entry 25 of List III, Schedule
