Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has rejected a suggestion by Home Minister Rajnath Singh to build tunnels in the landslide-prone regions of the state.
"Instead, I favoured building alternative routes for landslip zones," Rawat said on Monday. Rawat's comments came aftet meeting between the two leaders at Bijapur guest house here on Sunday. There were fresh cloudbursts and landslides in parts of the state where more than 25 people were killed in the past three-four days.
Rawat said since the Himalayan region in Uttarakhand is more fragile than Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, such tunnels cannot be constructed.
