'Knowledge creation dismal in India'

While the US has been at the helm of knowledge creation and also in its marketing, India has had a dismal record of knowledge creation, say experts.
In his keynote address at the seminar 'Destination USA: Opportunities & Attitudes' organised by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), Gujarat branch, recently, SB Dangayach, managing director of Sintex Industries Ltd, said, "The US is the greatest knowledge creator and is a repository of knowledge that can be used by India, which has a dismal record of knowledge creation. Unfortunately, our R&D doesn't create enough knowledge."
Dangayach said while 40-50 per cent of new hotel rooms in the US are being created by Gujaratis, hardly any of them helped the hospitality industry grow in Gujarat.
"If Mumbai is the financial capital, Gujaratis are financial masters but not many have used their enterprising skills for their land of origin after moving abroad," said Dangayach.
Amal Dhru, chairman, IACC, Gujarat, said the seminar was organised to deliberate upon the future of the economy and trend in the Indo-US perspective and to focus on issues for its growth.
Advocating the importance of stress management, Rooshi Kumar, international management guru, said work schedules and erratic eating habits take a toll on entrepreneurs and asked the industry to follow US examples of coping with stress.
