'UPA rule has provided clean, honest govt in last 5 years'

 The Congress led UPA rule had proved its capability to provide a 'stable, clean, honest and welfare oriented' government to the country in the last five years, former Chief Minister and DMK leader R V Janakiraman said here today.     

He said in a press release here that only a successive Congress led UPA rule with support of constituents would ensure speedy formulation and implementation of several more developmental schemes in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.     

He lauded the cooperation extended by DMK president M Karunanidhi to UPA's growth oriented programmes, which he said, was chiefly responsible for the Centre making 'unprecedented achievements' in all sectors.     

Janakiraman, convenor of DMK's local unit, said there was every need for Puducherry to have more administrative powers. To ensure full statehood for Puducherry, a government by Congress with support of Congress should assume reins of power in the Centre.     

The Sethusamudram canal project would be of great help to develop South Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Railway projects to link Puducherry and Karaikal with major cities and metropolis would be possible only through UPA rule, he said.
