Bjp To Move Privilege Motion Against Indrajit Gupta

The BJP yesterday stepped up pressure on Union home minister Indrajit Gupta by deciding to move a privilege motion against him on the charge that he misled the Rajya Sabha through his statement on Monday on the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh.
The partys chief whip in the Rajya Sabha, Rajnath Singh, has already notified chairman KR Narayanan on his intention to move a privilege motion against Gupta for misleading the house and for shielding Uttar Pradesh Governor Romesh Bhandari.
The chairman has to decide whether or not to allow the privilege motion. Singh said he was confident that the motion would be taken up.

Singh, who mentioned the motion in the House during zero hour yesterday, demanded later at a press conference that the home minister should either apologise to the House or he should remove Bhandari from Uttar Pradesh.
While replying to a short duration discussion on UPs law and order situation, Gupta had quoted a letter from Bhandari saying that the states chief secretarys letter to cabinet secretary on UP situation was not written on the Governors instruction, Singh pointed out.
However, we have proof that the chief secretarys letter was written after a discussion with the Governor, he asserted, claiming that he has documentary evidence to substantiate his charges.
Singh tried to raise the issue in the House while mentioning his motion but was shot down by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) member Mohammad Salim, who was sitting in the chair. Salim disallowed a discussion on the motion as a privilege motion notice is not discussed in the House.
BJP memberss protest against Salims ruling led to a commotion in the house for some time.
