The participants wanted tough questions. So the quiz master, Gaurav Sri Krishna, honoured their request. The questions turned out to be so good (read tough), that it tested the memory of the participants in every possible sense.

At the Business Standard Quiz National Finals, held on Saturday, at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, six teams slugged it out to win the trophy and the team from Genpact led by Rohan Khanna and Leo Thomas, won the first prize. The team from JPMorgan with Geo Thomas and Vikram Keskar, won the second prize and Sriram Krishnan and Aarun Kumar from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), ended up at the third position. The participants were finalists from northern, eastern and western regions.

The rounds involved questions on books, listening, ad-sense, video among sundry questions. However, it was a good mix of quizzing and fun too. Some questions also forced the participants to come up with innovative, albeit, funny answers.

For instance, when the quizmaster asked the participants to name the term for covering a vehicle in an advertisement? The participants invented terms like ad-on-wheels or car-advertising. The answer, wrap advertising, came from a member in the audience.

The audience, comprising students and professionals, participated enthusiastically. The questions ranged from naming the institution which takes its logo from the architecture of Sidi Sayed Mosque (IIM-Ahmedabad) to identifying yesteryear events on Amul Butter ads, to how certain companies were created and identifying the advertising logos and signature tune of various brands.

Sriram Krishnan from Sebi, who wore his lucky T-shirt to the event, said participating in the quiz had been a learning experience though he and his partner are undecided on what they would do with the prize money.

While the winner walked away with a cash prize of Rs 35,000, the runners up were awarded a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000,respectively. All three teams also won a bicycle from TI cycles, gift hamper from Sterling Holidays and Co-optex.
