Our Regional Bureau BUSINESS STANDARD

An international Colloquium on Bio-technology, focusing on bridging the technology devide, at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), was inaugurated by the governor of Andhra Pradesh, Surjit Singh Barnala here yesterday.

The governor stressed the need for a public policy to ensure that the poor in developing countries benefit from bio-technology. "Though India has skilled human resources and research infrastructure, there is a need for greater connectivity between those with scientific knowledge and those who will productively use it." he observed.

This would require partnerships within science, between science and public policy, between public and private sectors and between science and society in general, he added.
