Connections to airport intersect

BS Reporter Chennai/ Bangalore
The high-speed rail link project and the elevated expressway road project "" both conceived to improve the connectivity to the Bangalore International Airport "" are now on a collision course.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which has proposed to build the six-lane elevated expressway from Hebbal to Yelahanka on NH-7, recently asked the state government to change the alignment of the proposed high-speed rail link, which incidentally falls on the same line of the expressway.

Principal Secretary (infrastructure) V P Baligar said: "The detailed project report (DPR) for the rail link is ready. But with the NHAI seeking a change in the alignment, we have to rework on it as we have to ensure the co-existence of both rail and road routes to the airport."

The issue is expected to be discussed in the meeting of the directors of Bangalore Airport Rail Link (BARL), a special purpose vehicle created by the government for executing the project.
